If You Don’t Get What You Love, Learn to Love What You Get

Life doesn’t always give us what we dream of.
Some goals remain out of reach,
some people are never meant to stay,
and some paths turn out differently from what we planned.

And in our disappointment, we often ask:
“Why not me?”
or “Why didn’t it go the way I wanted?”

But behind all that lies a greater lesson —
to learn how to love what we’ve been given.
Not because we don’t deserve better,
but because Allah knows what suits us best,
even when we cannot yet see His wisdom.

Allah, the Most High, says:

“But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you;
and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you.
And Allah knows, while you know not.”

(Qur’an, Surah Al-Baqarah 2:216)

This verse is a gentle embrace for a heart that aches.
It teaches us that contentment is not surrender — it is trust.
And gratitude is not only for the grand blessings,
but also for the little ones we receive each day —
health, family, peace, and the chance to keep living.

Learning to love what we have doesn’t mean giving up on dreams.
It means valuing the process
and believing that every decree is perfectly arranged
by the One who knows us better than we know ourselves.

So if today you didn’t get what you love,
don’t grieve too long.
Look around —
perhaps what you received is far better,
you just haven’t realized it yet.

Because sometimes,
what we love doesn’t bring us closer to Allah,
but what we’re given — even if it seems small —
may be the safest path back to Him.
