Prayer is a sign of one's Islam. It is the second pillar of Islam that must be performed. This is a fact that all Muslims know.
But, Allah says that prayer is very difficult in nature except for those who are humble. Meaning, prayer is also a difficult test for Muslims to perform. Prayer is not just a physical routine but there must be a spiritual element, namely humility. That is what makes prayer easy.
“… and indeed, prayer is hard except for those who are humble” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:45)
People who are used to performing prayers sometimes find it difficult to complete them on time. Sometimes prayers get lost because they are tired from studying, working and managing their lives.
What's more, if we add in the recommended sunnah prayers such as the dawn sunnah prayer, the night sunnah prayer, etc. So much so that Prophet Ibrahim (AS) himself prayed to Allah to make him and his descendants the people who perform the prayer.
“O my Lord! Make me one of those who establish prayer and so will my descendants. O our Lord, accept my supplication.” (Surah Ibrahim, 14:40)
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said that prayer is light, proof and a savior in the hereafter. This means that the use of prayer is not only in this world, but is an urgent need at a time when no one else can save us in the hereafter. We perform prayer not only for Allah SWT but for ourselves.
Let this prayer of Prophet Ibrahim be a guide and practice, not only for us but for our future descendants.
Prayer is the most meaningful legacy we can leave to our children and grandchildren. Yes, faith cannot be inherited, but at least we have prayed that Allah will protect and preserve our descendants so that they will always be under His guidance.
People who pray, their lives will be guided. Even if they are still lacking in other practices, complete their prayers. Understand the words that are recited and the movements that are made so that they are able to act as what Allah has called for as a deterrent to shameful and evil deeds.
