When Was the Last Time You Recited This Prayer?

When we were in school as children, we were always taught daily prayers. Remember before we started studying, we would recite prayers together with our friends and teachers? One of them was the prayer for clarification of the heart and increased knowledge, which originated from the prayer of Prophet Moses (AS).

My Lord, expand my breast for me

“O my Lord, expand my chest for me;

And make my task easy for me.

And make my task easy for me;

And loosen the knot from my tongue

And untie the knot from my tongue,

They will understand my words

So that they understand my words;

Another simpler prayer from Surah Taha, verse 114 which reads:

My Lord, increase me in knowledge.

O my Lord, increase me in knowledge. "

These two prayers are often associated with the learning process to facilitate understanding and remembering what is learned. Are these prayers no longer needed now? Are they only for children?

Of course not. Imam Ibnu Hajar al-Asqalani said, the above verse contains a proof regarding the priority of knowledge. And the knowledge referred to in the proof above is specifically religious knowledge.

There are also scholars who are of the opinion that the knowledge referred to is knowledge of the Quran, plus understanding and memorization.

Our understanding of religious knowledge when we were young may have only been superficial. As we grow older, our new understanding of religious knowledge should also be deepened because we now have a broader intellectual capacity.

Looking at current developments, religious knowledge is also experiencing turmoil. It is sometimes mixed with things that are not authentic. There are also people who are not faqih (jurists) who are consulted to understand a new problem that has arisen, and there are those who rely on freedom of speech or simply 'advising', to express diverse thoughts.

Therefore, do not leave the two prayers above in our daily lives. May Allah increase our genuine understanding of religious knowledge and other sciences as a whole.
