'Idul Ghadir or Ghadir Day Celebration is a great day celebrated by the Shia Imamiyah on every 10th of Zulhijah. Today is the day that the Shia Imamiyah believe that Ali bin Abi Talib RA received the official appointment of Rasulullah SAW as the successor and heir to His Majesty SAW. This event is also known as the Ghadir Khum event .
It was narrated by Al-Saduq that on 18 Zulhijah, 10 Hijrah, Rasulullah SAW was on his way home from completing the Hajj in Mecca. When His Majesty SAW arrived at a place called Khum, between Mecca and Medina, His Majesty SAW stopped the group who were residents of Medina, rather than among the Muhajirin and Ansar. His Majesty SAW then stood with Ali bin Abi Talib RA then raised Ali bin Abi Talib RA's hand, saying:
"Indeed, I remind you of two heavy things, namely the Koran, and the People of My Temple. Indeed, the two of them will not be separated until they meet me in heaven. Whoever I was his mawla before, then Ali is his mawla. O Allah, protect whoever protects him, help whoever helps him, enemy whoever is hostile to him, humble whoever humiliates him, and give him the truth wherever he is."
The Shiites really adhere to this history, in fact they really mean this event. So Al-Qummi in his tafsir narrated from Al-Saduq, that after His Majesty SAW uttered these words, Rasulullah SAW looked towards the sky and said:
"Oh Allah, didn't I tell you?" .
Then Jibril AS came down to His Majesty SAW, conveying verse 3 of Surah Al-Maidah, namely:
" Today I have perfected your religion for you, and I have completed My blessings for you, and I am pleased with you about Islam as a religion ."
This famous verse is accused by Al-Qummi that the perfection of religion mentioned in the verse, hints at the inauguration of Ali bin Abi Talib RA as the successor of Rasulullah SAW. This verse did not come down, only after the Prophet Muhammad SAW announced the inauguration of Ali bin Abi Talib RA in front of His Majesty SAW's entire entourage.
