FLOOD DISASTER: A TEST INVITES GRACE

Who doesn't feel sad and bitter when they remember the flood disaster that caused the death of loved ones, damaged property including cars, causing huge losses.

This has not yet gone through the repair times to return to the way it was before and the worst is to re-soothe the somewhat depressed emotions due to the destruction of property and the departure of loved ones in the blink of an eye after many years together.

Of course, those who face it will know how painful it is when the test comes. Will we as Muslims blame destiny?

In our daily life, we certainly cannot escape from facing various things that are not desired by all humans, such as the flood disaster that hit our country recently and many victims who are still traumatized.

However, our religion does not make all the misfortunes a pointless thing.

Believers who have faith, are patient and calm with the calamity, will be rewarded with a reward by Allah SWT and we as His servants do not know what wisdom Allah SWT wants behind the calamity that befalls.

Of course, every believer will be tested to strengthen his faith and piety to Allah SWT alone.

That is the promise of Allah SWT and Allah SWT will see the extent of his servant's patience and dependence on Allah SWT when something bad happens or otherwise.

The word of God in Surah al-Baqarah verse: 155,

"And indeed We will give you trials, with a little fear, hunger, lack of property, souls and fruits. And give glad tidings to those who are patient."  (Surah al-Baqarah: 155).

The best attitude when facing adversity, is to be patient and make an effort, then return it or rely on Allah SWT Almighty for everything.

As His words in Surah Al-Baqarah verse 156:

"(i.e.) those who, when misfortune befalls them, they say, "Innaa lillaahi wa innaa ilaihi raaji'uun."

Remember, when Allah SWT loves His servant, then Allah SWT will bring disaster upon His servant, as an atonement for sin, because Allah SWT does not want His servant to walk on the face of His earth, bearing the slightest sin.

Saidatina Aisyah Radhiallahu'anha said that the Prophet SAW said:

“No calamity befalls a Muslim but Allah will wipe out (his sins) with it, even a thorn that hurts him .” (Narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim).

Although every trial and calamity that befalls us is to test our patience, but many feel heavy when faced with such trials.

Know that one of the reasons for calamity is when Allah SWT wants good for His servants.

Anas bin Malik Radiallahu'anhu said that the Prophet SAW said:

"When God wants good for His servant, God will immediately punish him in the world. And when Allah desires evil for His servant, Allah will withhold punishment for him (as a result of his sins) in this world, until Allah repays him (perfectly) on the Day of Resurrection.  (Narrated by al-Tirmizi and al-Hakim).

So, we should calm down and be patient, when tested by misfortune. We must believe that all of that is an eraser of the sins we have committed all the time.

Do not complain, complain and be dissatisfied with the test of Allah SWT, so that some of us point the finger of blame at each other.

Therefore, do not let the self-glory bestowed by Allah SWT be lost because of our own attitude and manners by resisting the destiny that has been determined.

Know that life in this world is not quiet from troubles, crises, calamities and catastrophes when no human being will escape from them when the time comes.

Time seems to no longer give people the opportunity to make a choice whether tomorrow or the day after tomorrow because the provisions of Allah SWT are already written for each of his servants even if someone wants to disobey them.

This is because night and day alternately present a thousand and one guesses and tests that are scattered throughout the journey of human life to test the level of faith and piety that is enthroned in each person's sanubari that is able to raise the quality of dependence only on God alone in the true sense of the word.

Therefore, be assured that the calamity that befalls us is a test that will invite the mercy of Allah SWT on patience and undivided dependence on the Almighty because the wisdom behind the calamity will certainly be experienced through the best gift that Allah SWT will give to His servants whether in world and the hereafter. Wallahu A'lam
