INDEPENDENCE IS AN AWARD TO BE THANKFUL FOR

Independence is one of God's blessings bestowed upon mankind. Therefore, we must be grateful for God's favor because we are given the opportunity to celebrate independence every year in an atmosphere full of peace, peace and prosperity .

Merdeka according to the Dewan Dictionary, means free from colonialism, confinement, patronage and so on. It also means being free from hostages or claims and standing alone and not dependent on others . In Arabic, independence is referred to as 'estiqlal' which means being alone in having glory, being independent and rising from oppression or breaking free from a bond.

Realizing the blessing of independence that Allah SWT has bestowed upon us with the various riches of the earth, infrastructure facilities, education, employment and others, then it is good for us to reflect on ourselves and ask: Have we been grateful and at the same time what is our contribution to religion , nation and country after a long time our country achieved independence.

If we are aware of the fact of independence as the starting point for freedom in the true sense, then we should be grateful for this favor of Allah SWT as His words in Surah Al-Maaidah:

Meaning: And (remind them, O Muhammad), when Prophet Moses said to his people: "O my people! Remember the favor of Allah (Given) to you when He made among you some Prophets, and He made you free and independent (after you were enslaved by Pharaoh and his people), and He gave you things that were never given to anyone from the people (at that time)".

Islam is essentially a religion of liberation and independence. Independence for a Muslim means that he is free when he declares his true devotion to Allah SWT. Human freedom from polytheism to only obeying Allah SWT. Human freedom from being a prisoner of lust to devotion to Allah SWT. The words of Allah SWT in Surah Adz-Zaariyat:

Meaning: "And (remember) I did not create jinn and humans except for them to worship and worship Me."

History proves that the opening of Islam to all corners of the Arab land has witnessed a rebirth and freedom of life so that human nature is respected without any form of oppression and tyranny. For example, how Salahuddin al-Ayyubi for the first time took control of Baitul Maqdis after being defeated by the enemies of Islam and Sultan Muhammad al-Fateh's speech at the opening of the city of Constantinople with a lot of humility and tolerance and  a  very high tolerance . Likewise the event of the opening of the city of Mecca which if can be considered as a struggle for independence carried out by the Prophet SAW with a very high tolerance by restoring human rights and human dignity .

Therefore, the independence of the homeland also needs to be fulfilled by inviting all people to return to the Islamic life. If before independence, the colonists were the ones who governed and they were the ones who put the rules and laws to be obeyed by the people of the colony. Of course, the colonialists will manage and administer this country according to the laws and constitution that are according to their wishes and of course far from the recommendations of al-Quran and al-Sunnah.

This independence is not something that is easy to achieve because the previous generations of fighters have sacrificed all their souls and bodies in fighting for the independence of their beloved homeland. As a sign of gratitude, we should appreciate the services of the country's fighters by ensuring that the peace and prosperity achieved last. In order to translate this feeling of gratitude, we should strive to be an obedient community by implementing the commandments of good and evil in order to receive the blessings and help of Allah SWT as His words in Surah Al-Hajj:

Meaning: They (Muslims) are those who, if We give them the power to rule on earth, they will establish prayer and give zakat, and they will order to do good and forbid from doing evil and evil things. And (remember) to Allah is the end of all affairs.

Being grateful for the blessing of independence and not blaspheming it means that we take advantage of all the blessings of Allah SWT by doing useful work in preserving physical and spiritual development as desired in the idea of a Civilized Malaysia. Economic stability, the wealth of the earth's produce and the freedom of the people to find sustenance in every inch of our earth is a gift from Allah SWT and it is obligatory for us to be grateful.

Allah SWT says in Surah Ibrahim:

It is clear that being grateful is the first and foremost duty for those who want to obey the will of Allah SWT. Every Muslim must be grateful for every favor he has received from his Creator.

Therefore, defending the country's independence with gratitude is our common duty as common people. For example, the Madinah charter founded by His Majesty SAW has mentioned that all the common people should defend the city of Madinah together. In addition, building the country towards excellence from all aspects so that we are always together with developed and modern countries and do not lag behind in various forms of development is something that is very necessary to do.

In addition, it is necessary for us to display the love for the country that must be instilled in children from an early age. This makes every citizen always appreciate the land of his birth which will definitely have a feeling of loyalty to the country. This will definitely bring a lot of goodness in our lives as well as a sense of fun to settle down and be proud of our country.

Various blessings have been felt by us as a people as a result of the achieved independence. This is compounded by the efforts made by the leaders in the past, so we find that various developments and infrastructures for the comfort of the people have been prepared to meet the needs of the people.
