PATIENCE IS HALF OF FAITH — SO WHAT COMPLETES THE OTHER HALF?

It is often said that patience is half of faith. But what completes the other half?

Scholars have offered various explanations, yet one of the strongest opinions states that if half of faith lies in patience, then the other half lies in gratitude. This is because patience and gratitude are the two wings of a believer — both are necessary for reaching true piety.

If faith is understood merely as belief in the heart, then it remains incomplete without the “garment” that protects and beautifies that belief. Scholars emphasize that the garment of faith is fear of Allah. This reverent fear produces gratitude, and gratitude in turn cultivates patience, even in facing the smallest tests in life.

In conclusion:
Patience and gratitude are inseparable.
Patience strengthens the heart during trials,
while gratitude purifies the soul during blessings.
Together, they complete one’s faith and draw a servant closer to Allah.
