SYAWAL IS A GIFT FROM GOD

One Syawal is a gift from Allah SWT to Muslims and it is a victory due to the success of implementing the religious demands contained in the five Pillars of Islam.

Indeed, fasting in the month of Ramadan has great rewards, so much so that it is narrated in a hadith qudsi:

“All the deeds of the son of Adam are for him except fasting, it is only for Me and I will reward him for it.”

(HR Bukhari and Muslim)

However, it should be reminded that Muslims need to continue with the same discipline and manners as throughout Ramadan so that Syawal is not tainted by inappropriate practices or actions.

It is necessary to emulate the practices and manners of celebrating Syawal of the Prophet Muhammad SAW, especially to ensure that it is not filled with useless activities that contradict the demands of religion.

This bad culture of following and following the Qibla of foreign countries has been strongly warned by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in a hadith:

((You will surely follow the ways of those before you, span by span and cubit by cubit, to the extent that if they entered the hole of a lizard, you would follow them.)) We said: O Messenger of Allah, the Jews and Christians? He said: “Then who?”

“You will follow the path of those before you, hand in hand and cubit by hand, until if those you follow enter a hole in the ground (even a narrow one), you will follow them.” We (the companions) said, “O Messenger of Allah, are those being followed Jews and Christians?” He replied, “Then who else?”

Sahih Muslim, 8/57/2669.

It is truly impressive and heavy in our hearts, when Syawal arrives, sometimes the Ramadan madrasah that has educated us to be gentle-hearted, patient in facing trials, humble in gratitude, pious with the qualities of servitude and available in a sincere human spirit with the qualities of mahmudah and strong servitude to its Creator; suddenly turns into a disorder that has begun to gradually tend towards a situation that is not in line with the demands of the Sharia.

It is even sadder when a few of us start to get excited about celebrating Aidil Fitri without realizing that we are actually always surrounded or limited by the demands of religious law.

Socializing during the month of Syawal suddenly became widely open, exceeding the limits of Sharia law just because they wanted to celebrate and make the Eid celebrations more exciting.

The practice of visiting is a religious requirement, but it is found to be tainted when socializing occurs without morals and manners that do not comply with Islamic law, for example shaking hands or exposing one's private parts to non-mahrams.

The demand for clothing that complies with Sharia law is also set aside, simply because they want to follow the latest fashion trends.

The Sunnah of dressing up in new clothes on Eid morning was suddenly tainted with tight, eye-catching clothes, sparse fabrics and coupled with the intention of showing off and attracting attention.

Even the gatherings during Eid that were supposed to strengthen the bonds of kinship ended up being filled with a very sad atmosphere.

The much-anticipated meeting once a year is filled with talking about the bad things about each other, backbiting and opportunities to slander each other.

Extreme entertainment is also sometimes presented to the point of being overwhelming and ultimately, due to being engrossed, unconsciously or consciously, some people miss or intentionally skip the obligatory prayers.

The arrival of Aidil Fitri is also sometimes used to spend excessively and wastefully.

The purpose of changing home furniture is not to provide comfort to guests but to show off and be proud.

A few of us also sometimes wear excessive jewelry to gain compliments and also compete with each other.

Celebrating, respecting and providing the best service to guests is a religious requirement. However, there are a few of us who hold open houses and give gifts to show off our luxury.

It is even sadder that some are willing to go into debt simply to show off their greatness and end Syawal with a heavy debt burden.

So there is no doubt that Syawal is another blessing from Allah to Muslims in realizing the meaning of the two words of tauhid, both within themselves, their family members and the community within the country and abroad, after struggling for a month in the holy month of Ramadan.
