UPM MOSQUE MAHABBAH AND BENCHMARKING VISIT TO TEMERLOH, PAHANG

TEMERLOH, 2 August – The Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Mosque Committee conducted a goodwill and benchmarking visit to the Tengku Mahkota Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Mosque and the At-Taqwa Mosque in Kampung Awah, Temerloh, from 1 to 2 August 2026. The visit aimed to examine best practices in mosque management and revitalization efforts that have successfully attracted consistent congregation attendance, particularly for the Subuh (dawn), Maghrib (sunset), and Isyak (night) prayers.

The two-day visit sought to expose committee members to the systematic management approaches and revitalization strategies implemented by both mosques, which now serve as models for various institutions nationwide.

Throughout the visit, the UPM Mosque delegation was briefed on the implementation of congregational prayer campaigns, mosque organizational management, volunteer development, youth engagement, and the use of social media to disseminate information and promote mosque activities.

Also shared were approaches to building strong community ties through welfare programs, family-oriented activities, community outreach visits, and a culture of valuing every congregant's presence. These approaches have successfully fostered a sense of togetherness and community ownership, ensuring the mosques remain vibrant hubs of activity.

The Director of the UPM Islamic Centre, who also serves as the UPM Mosque Nazir (Administrator), Mr. Zuhaimi Abd. Rahim, stated that such visits serve as a crucial platform for strengthening mosque management through the sharing of experiences and best practices.

"A mosque's success is measured not only by its physical facilities but also by its ability to cultivate a love for the mosque within the community.

The experiences shared by these two mosques serve as an inspiration for the UPM Mosque to further enhance its revitalization efforts, making them more organized, inclusive, and impactful," he said. He stated that an approach prioritizing togetherness, community engagement, and proactive leadership can boost public participation in mosque activities and, in turn, foster a vibrant culture of congregational prayer.

The visit also provided an opportunity for both parties to exchange views on governance, program management, volunteer development, and efforts to strengthen collaborative networks among mosque institutions.

This program is expected to serve as a catalyst for the UPM Mosque in reinforcing its role as a hub for community development, knowledge dissemination, and community empowerment, while also promoting a culture of congregational prayer among the university community and the surrounding public.
